I’m going to have a balanced life – as soon as I find the time- Part 2

A balanced life is different for everyone. It’s personal and individual. One could say that star athletes or famous musicians, have not lived a balanced life (thousands of hours of their life spent mastering their craft), but I suspect in many ways, it gave them the life they wanted. And I suspect they missed some high school dances and parties along the way. So what a balanced life is, for each person, is very different. It doesn’t mean your meditating every day and getting to yoga. And it might mean that for you.

So here’s our first opportunity to participate:  I’d love for a few people to share – What is a balanced life for you? You would consider your life balanced IF __________ what?

We want to hear from YOU.

I’m going to have a balanced life – as soon as I find the time- Part 1

So the title of this presentation is, “I’m going to have a balanced life – as soon as I find the time”. You are, aren’t you? As soon as you find the time, things WILL GET balanced, yes?

Today my intention is to give you a new access, or a new perspective, or a new VIEW, about this thing people call “having a balanced” life. So this won’t be 5 Tips to A Balanced Life. This won’t be 3 Ways to Say No. However, with a new VIEW or a new PERSPECTIVE on this thing we call “TIME” you will naturally see for yourself what there is to do next in your OWN life, to create a balanced life for yourself. Whatever you consider “balanced”.

And what it will take to ACHIEVE what you call a balanced life will be different for everyone. That’s why I’m not going to say at the end of this talk, now go back to your offices and do X, Y, Z. However at the end of this, I think you will leave here with a few things that you can start doing (or stop doing) that will help you achieve what you call a balanced life.

What will make this talk particularly valuable is if you are on the hunt for some new insights. It’s those insights that will naturally lead you to new actions to take, or in many cases, actions to Stop taking. If this talk is really valuable, and goes really well, then you may have what I’ll call some “bad news” insights about yourself that may really alter how you relate to this precious asset we all have, called Time.

Stay tuned for our next vlog…

Do you want control, or do you want time?

Delegating is going to require that you give up some control. That’s just how it is. So you can keep control and keep all that stuff on your plate that is truly not the best use of you. Or you can let go of a little control and start to reap the benefits of delegation. The payoffs of releasing your grip on some tasks and projects will be that you will get time back in your life. Having other people take over some of your tasks and projects may also result in them finding new, different or better ways of doing what you’ve  been doing. That may be confronting or uncomfortable, and yet very valuable for you and your company.

Delegating takes practice. You may not be good at it in the beginning. You will improve. You will get better at giving direction efficiently and in a way that someone can take your projects and run with them. But then, you really do need to let them “run” with it, not just walk two blocks with it. Give them enough leash to really show you what they can do. Be open to being surprised.

Thank you to Biz Chix podcast #349 (How to Delegate Your Calendar) for the phrase that I’m now saying every day to prospective clients: Do you want control, or do you want time?

Live a balanced life once you have the time

We are delighted to share that our CEO is giving a talk on one of her areas of expertise this month! She is speaking about scheduling and living a balanced life as the luncheon speaker for the Women Business Owners organization on March 28th in Bellevue, WA! A balanced life is the kind of life you want; it has the kind of balance you want, and that is very unique to you! That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re meditating every morning before work and getting to yoga a few times a week.
Is having a peaceful and sane schedule that serves you, selfish? No. Here is what is selfish – letting yourself get run into the ground, and having people worry about you, or feel bad for you, or hope that one day they will get to have a relaxed and fun conversation with you. If you want to be a real contribution to the people around you, and make the difference you’re really out to make with your business and in the world, then take great care of your Self.

If you design the minutes of your precious life in a way that honors you, then people will really get the best version of you. Do you notice that when you’re not overwhelmed, you’re lovely to be with? You’re a joy. You’re present. Do you notice that when you’re not overwhelmed the work you do, is great work? And even when you do work really hard one day or one week, you’re totally satisfied and fulfilled and proud. This is what is possible when you schedule and live a life with the balance that you want!

Do you or your team have Hurry Sickness? Are you spreading secondhand stress?

Do you feel there is never enough time? “The anxiety that comes with running around to meet demand after demand has been proven contagious in group settings—and secondhand stress is a serious factor in breaking down meaningful communication and producing effective work. The more your team participates in time urgency, the worse the symptoms will get.” Thank you Trello for another great post about productivity in this modern era of Rushing! Please, read on!
