“To enjoy life, you don’t need fancy nonsense, but you do need to control your time and realize that most things just aren’t as serious as you make them out to be.” ― Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
I regularly talk to prospects in my business who are at the affect of all that is coming at them, as if everything is serious and important and mission critical right now! It’s a real shift in mind set to consider that people and situations can wait. Really, 90% of the time, they can wait. No one is dying, because you’re not running to their rescue today. As providers of services do we want to be responsive? You bet. And we can be. But the response could be, “Thank you for your note, I’ll get back to you about that next week.” I say this like this, because many people cannot imagine responding in that way. They can’t imagine slowing things down and “controlling their time,” as Timothy Ferris says. This is why many people use an Executive Assistant to be the owner and body guard of their calendar. Like my tax preparer says, “Your crisis is not my crisis.” For those of you who know that this pertains to you, try it. Try not rushing to everyone’s aid, and see how much you enjoy life then.
